Couch to 5K

I have decided to run a 5K this spring and I have started my Couch to 5K training. I had such a great training run on Monday night. I really was not in the mood to hit the trail after the kids had fallen asleep, but I’m happy Jaap gave me that little nudge. It was such a beautiful evening.

I feel grateful that we live so close to nature and these scenes are right at the end of our street. We are very fortunate. Spring has finally arrived and it felt so good to be outside exercising. I completely understand why Jaap does this every weekend. It’s also very liberating to know that I am done having babies, done being pregnant, and will eventually be done with the breastfeeding phase of my life. It’s time to take ownership of my physical body again. Yesterday I biked to work and all the way back up that long hill and it felt great. I was actually enjoying it at one point. Sunny weather also added to that mood, but even still. It’s time to get more physically active!

Walks with Thibault

I love exploring our little town. Here is a snapshot from my latest walk with Thibault. Our town is quite small and my hour long walks with Thibault can get quite boring, if I don’t try to find new and beautiful things each time. I love this tower. The church celebrated it’s 750 anniversary last year. Lots of history in this building.

Walks with Thibault

A few times a week, Thibault and I enjoy a long walk together. These walks have been good for my health and they are also good for Thibault. He gets some crisp, cold, fresh air, and a nice long nap, and I get some exercise, plus a little bit of nature and time to listen to a podcast in peace. It’s been a great time for me to clear my head. Sometimes I do a guided walking meditation, sometimes I just walk in silence. It’s been a peaceful and welcoming part of my day.

There is one part of the walk where we come to this small farm with horses. The view is beautiful. This particular day it was a little misty, but the sun was shining through. Add a sleeping baby to the picture—it was beautiful!

So my New Year’s resolution is to continue these walks with him and make it a part of my weekly exercise routine because it’s been good for the soul. Happy 2017!
