Six Weeks Old!

Happy six week old birthday to the littlest man in my life! Six weeks seems to have gone by fast. I’m trying to cherish all these cute, tiny moments with you while they last. You are growing so fast! There are these fleeting moments of smiling interactions happening and I have yet to catch one on camera. I’m too busy admiring your cuteness. Remember not to grow too fast. We will miss all the tiny snuggles. If you’re looking for a Christmas gift idea for Mom and Pop, a nice stretch of sleep would be fab! 🙂

Mindful Moment: Sisterly Love

This cuteness comes with a price…no sleep! Sleep deprivation has officially set in and it has started to take a toll on the body. I have already recovered from an illness last week and I know that it was all brought on because of a lack of sleep. But, thanks to my incredible husband and loving in-laws (who came and took care of us for two days), I was able to recover and I’m feeling better now. “It takes a village to raise a child.” No kidding!

But, despite our lack of sleep and general feeling of haziness, my spirits are pretty high. I feel completely in love with our little Thibault and in a blink of an eye, he’s already one month old. How did that happen?

Some days are easier than others and I’m trying to live in the moment and not think too far down the road. Because the prospect of not going out at night, going back to work, the idea of more sleepless nights, etc. gets me down. Being present and mindful of the here and now are getting me through the day. Being conscious is key.

Due to illness, last week was rough. And then we have great days like today. Flora was such an amazing big sister. She loves her brother so much and it fills my heart. Here’s a snapshot of a cute moment cuddling on the couch this morning.

Our family of four

Last week we welcomed our son Thibault Christopher Johannes Jansen into the world. It’s been a wonderful 12 days of getting to know our newborn son and transitioning into life as a family of four.

Big sister Flora couldn’t be any prouder. We are savouring every moment of family togetherness this week while Jaap is on vacation/ baby leave. We’ll see how things will go when he returns to work. I am trying to stay present and not worry too much about my days alone with two kids. But for now, I’m enjoying our tiny little love bubble and grateful for our healthy and happy children.

An NYC birthday

My 35th birthday was spent in New York City with Mom, our niece and nephew, my sister, and dinner with my dear friend Shannon. It was the perfect New York day. Warm weather, sunshine, activities that the kids loved and relaxed family time.

We met my sister and family at the Children’s Museum of the Arts in down in Soho. I highly recommend this place for creative little people. Painting, water colours, clay, and more. It was a beautifully colourful, fun, and messy place.

Magnolia Bakery cupcakes

And since it was my birthday, I requested that we visit Magnolia Bakery in the West Village. I have never been there, but I have heard delicious things about this NY institution. The buttercream frosting alone is worth the trip! It’s to die for. Lucky for us, there was a playground right around the corner. This was probably the highlight of the day for Flora and Elin. They could have stayed there for hours. It was a nice break for everyone, to sit, chat, relax, and watch the ladies play.

The perfect NYC day ended with perfect NYC pizza in the Bronx. I dare to say, this is the best tasting pizza I have ever had in my life. I’ve had tons of pizza in Italy (yet to eat it in Naples), but this one takes the cake. Homemade pepperoni—yes please!

So, if you ever find yourself in Pelham Parkway and you’re looking for a bite to eat, go to Louie and Ernies. It’s a life changer! Happy birthday to me!
